Educational seminar "Historical approach to the Holocaust and mass crimes in the Balkans"


In the period from 14 to 16 September 2015 in the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia was held an educational seminar on "Historical approach to the Holocaust and mass crimes in the Balkans", intended for history teachers in high schools in the Republic of Macedonia. The seminar was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia and the Memorial de la Choa from Paris, France. This is the second educational seminar for professors organized by the Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews of Macedonia in cooperation with the Memorial de la Choire from Paris, France, and the first held in the Republic of Macedonia. The Embassy of the Republic of France in the Republic of Macedonia, the French Institute in Skopje and the Claims Conference were supporters of this educational project which contributed to its more successful realization.

The grand opening of the seminar was held on September 14, where a welcoming speech was given by Mr. Safet Neziri, state advisor at the Ministry of Education and Science of R. Macedonia; Mr. Jovan Tegovski, Ambassador and National Coordinator for the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance; Н. E. Mrs. Christina Althauser, Ambassador of Germany to the Republic of Macedonia Macedonia; Н. E. Mrs. Alurence Auer, Ambassador of France in R. Macedonia; Mr. Goran Sadikario, Chief Executive Officer of the Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews of Macedonia and Mr. Bruno Boyer, Director of Foreign Affairs at the Memorial de la Shoah, Paris, France.

The seminar was attended by 36 history teachers from high schools in the Republic of Macedonia, where they expanded their knowledge of the Holocaust, genocide and mass killings in the Balkans and had the opportunity to learn from prominent professors in this field such as Johan Chapout, a University historian. at the Paris Sorbonne; Tal Brutman, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences; Assistant Professor Dr. Ivanka Dodovska from the Faculty of Law at the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius ”in Skopje; prof. Dr. Tomislav Dulic from Uppsala University; Assistant Professor Dr. Misho Dokmanovic from the Faculty of Law at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius ”in Skopje; Assistant Professor Dr. Theon Jingo from the Institute of National History; Dubravka Stojanovi from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade; Nadege Ragaru of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales; as well as George Bensoussan of the Memorial de la Shoah.
