Seminar event for history teachers from Macedonia and Greece in the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia


The Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia and the Holocaust Memorial Center in Paris (Memorial de la Shoah), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Religion of Greece, organized an educational seminar "The Holocaust as a starting point: Comparing and Sharing III” between 13th and 15th of December 2019. The seminar was intended for history teachers from primary and secondary schools and was attended by 20 professors from Greece and 20 from Macedonia. The opening speech was given by Ambassador Jovan Tegovski - National Coordinator of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), the French Ambassador to RN Macedonia, Mr.Christian Thimonier, Mr. Goran Sadikarijo - Executive Director of the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia and Mr. Bruno Boier from the Memorial de la Shoah. The Greek Ambassador to the Republic of N Macedonia, Mr.Dimitris Yannakakis also addressed the participants, stressing the importance of such trainings and the cooperation between the two countries, as well as the necessity of Holocaust education. On the first day of the seminar, the professors from both countries had the opportunity to learn, through historical photographs, how to bring the subject of the Holocaust closer to their students and to hear more about the aftermath of World War II in Europe. At the end of the first working day all participants visited the Jewish community and the Beth Jacob synagogue in Skopje.
