Bilateral webinar – 26th and 27th October and 2nd and 3rd November

The fourth international online seminar for teachers from the Republic of Macedonia and Greece, on the "Holocaust as a starting point" topic, organized by the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia and Memorial de la Shoah, has ended. The Ministry of Education, Research and Religions of Greece was included in the organization of this webinar, with approval of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia.

During the four working days, the participants had the opportunity to attend interesting lectures delivered by international experts, such as Tal Brutman, EHESS, who spoke about the "The Holocaust in Europe"; Nicholas Patten, from the University of Bordeaux Montaigne, who addressed the topic of "The Nazi vision of Europe"; “Holocaust, genocide and mass crimes - The Pontic Genocide” topic was addressed by Theodosios Kyriakidis from Aristotle University; the “Deportation of Jews from the Occupied Territories by Bulgaria” lecture was delivered by Rumen Avramov from Sofia; and professor Misho Dokmanovic from the "St. Cyril and Methodius" University from Macedonia referred to the fate of the Jews from RN Macedonia, the topic of his lecture was "After the end of the Holocaust". There was also a vivid interaction on this seminar, where the teachers had the opportunity to discuss certain topics and express their experiences on covering specific, sensitive Holocaust-related topics in the classes with their students. Their experience enriched the workshops that featured various and current topics.

Mrs. Tanja Lenuevit from the House of Vannasi delivered, as a great educator, the topics on “Same Event – Different Stories” and “A closer look – working with historical photographs”; Alexandra Patrikiou from the Jewish Museum in Greece organized a workshop on “Fictional Films and the Holocaust”. The workshops of Fabrice Teixe from the Memorial de la Shoah attracted particular attention, where the topics were “Anti-Semitism and social media” and “Racial prejudices and how to deal with them”, and these instigated the participants to discuss and speak up about the things they encounter on the social media in terms of prejudices, racism and anti-Semitism. Alexandra Patrikiou from the Jewis Museum in Greece also held an interesting workshop on "Teaching about Conflicting Attitudes Towards the Jews during World War II." The teachers, divided into inter-state pairs, were given the task to develop projects that will be evaluated, and the best one would win an award - a trip to Paris and a visit to the Memorial de la Shoah.

This seminar was organized in a format different than usual, but in any case it was evaluated as useful and successful.
