The “Memory” event was held at the Memorial Center of the Holocaust of the Jews from Macedonia


On the occasion of 76 years of deportation of the Jews from Macedonia to the Treblinka death camp and 75 years of the renewal of the Jewish Community in Macedonia, the Italian Embassy in Skopje, in cooperation with the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia and the Jewish Community in the Republic of Macedonia organized the “Memory” event.

The event included a lecture delivered by the renowned Italian historian and professor, Mr.Marcello Pesetti, Director of the Holocaust Museum in Rome. The lecture was dedicated to the role of the Italian diplomats during the Holocaust, with special emphasis on Skopje, Bitola and Salonika.

During the presentation, Prof. Pesetti showed historical documents that are part of the exhibition currently exhibited in Rome, pertaining to the activities of the Italian diplomats during the racial law and World War II (1938-1943).

In addition, the documentary film “Memory” was shown, directed by Rugero Gabai, produced on the basis of the memories of the Italian survivors of Auschwitz. The film was awarded the first prize at the Nuremberg Film Festival and was selected by the Berlin International Film Festival.
