Promotional event: Struma – a lullaby in the dark by Hakan Akdoğan
The Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia organized a promotional event of the book Struma – a lullaby in the dark by Hakan Akdoğan. The event took place on 23.05.2019 in the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia and the book was promoted by academician Mr.Ferid Muhic.
The Struma book tells the story of a ship taking off from the Constanza port during the difficult days of World War II that anchors at the shores of Bosporus near Istanbul. How far shall this coffin carry the hundreds of Jews in the quest for a new fatherland…? The answer to this question is one of the most shameful pages of the history. The destiny of the Ship of the damned was to sink in the dark waters of the Black Sea.
Hakan Akdoğan was born in 1971 in Ankara, Turkey. He is philologist and had at many jobs – from a guard in an art gallery to a bartender, from a commercial advisor for sports equipment to a store manager, from a radio producer to an editor in a publishing house. He graduated English philology at the University of Hachetepe and Media and communications at the Anatolian University. At the Uludag University he worked on the program “The Man, the Society and the Philosophy”. Has translated works by Fernando Pessoa and Marquis de Sade. He has written the novels the Nude Peride (Nü Peride), The Shadow that Lives (Gölge Yaşatan), Struma, Touch (İlişmek), The Hedgehog’s Distance (Kirpi Mesafesi). He is the winner of the Yunus Nadi Award for best novel.
