Professor Gideon Greif gave a lecture on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz

Through my lectures, the chances of becoming a neo-Nazi are zero. "We need to talk about the Holocaust every minute and remember the victims to prevent anti-Semitic acts."

Three hundred students from the high school of economics "Vasil Antevski - Dren" yesterday attended a lecture on the Holocaust at the Jewish Memorial Center. The lecture was given by the professor of contemporary Jewish history from Israel Gideon Greif, who came to Skopje on the occasion of 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. "I have addressed half a million young people around the world so far. The goal is not to forget this darkest period in human history, even though few want to talk about murder. However, through my lectures the chances of becoming a neo-Nazi are zero. "We need to talk about the Holocaust every minute and remember the victims to prevent anti-Semitic acts." Greif believes that work should be done on introducing a special subject in schools to study this period of history. "Four pages in history books are too few to know what happened and how to protect ourselves in the future. Although it is very difficult, I hope that one day the Holocaust will be studied in more detail," Greif added. He urged high school students to oppose anti-Semitic activities so that history does not repeat itself. "To be courageous individualists, not cowards. They need to recognize dictators and punish them severely. Only then will we protect ourselves in the future and be safe, and anti-Semitism will go down in history," Greif said. The lectures at the Memorial Center are part of the cooperation between the Jewish community in Macedonia and Israel.
